About ThreadEd
Introducing ThreadEd: Children’s Clothing Program
ThreadEd was developed after Hurricane Florence devastated our area in September 2018. Our volunteers coordinated food and clothing distribution for those in need and found that children were some of the most affected by the storm. Delivering clothing and toiletries to students in a tri-county area was humbling. Their expressions of gratitude were beyond measure.
These efforts wouldn’t stop after hurricane recovery efforts slowed down. RCS has partnered with Craven, Jones and Pamlico County Schools to develop a program that identifies students in need of clothing and toiletry items. We work with teachers, guidance counselors, principals and the Board of Education to discreetly identify the needs and personalities of each student in the program.
Schools provide RCS with information that lets us know the sizes and styles needed for each student. We work to find clothes that fit these needs and supply students with in-season clothing and toiletries. Collections are assembled and returned to the school for a teacher to give to the student in confidence.
Our ThreadEd Program depends on donations of time, materials, and money from our community. We accept seasonal clothing donated in bags marked “RCS ThreadEd Program”. This ensures that donated clothes are directed to this program. We currently need the following items for students in grades K-12:
-
NEW/GENTLY USED clothing and shoes
-
NEW underwear
-
NEW socks
-
TOILETRY/HYGIENE ITEMS in large bottles (shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, lotion, feminine hygiene products)
Monetary donations can be made online (see "Make a Donation" button on this page) or via checks made payable to RCS (please mark “RCS ThreadEd Program” in the memo line.
Donations are accepted at our warehouse located at 919 George Street. Due to ongoing renovations, the layout of our facility has changed. Please use the Guion Street entrance and follow the signs for donation drop-off location. Any questions regarding this program can be directed to Corey Kick.
