how to use RSS

how to use RSS

This is a PICTURE of the symbol for RSS, which stands for Really Simple Syndication.

That's just a fancy way of saying that you can get "Feeds" for this website delivered right to your mailbox or favorite reader. You have seen Feeds before even if you didn't realize it. Think of the news that streams along the bottom of the television screen when there is important news or severe weather that the station wants to keep you informed of without interrupting your program. That is a "feed". A continuous stream of updates.

A "Feed Reader" is very much like a mailbox where all the things you want to read, get delivered to you as soon as they are updated. But instead of you giving out your email address or having to bookmark all the things you want to read, they are delivered to you in one very convenient place.

Feed Readers are FREE and available through most ISP's and email providers like Google, Yahoo, AOL, etc. When you click the RSS icon, it will take you to a page where you can select where you want your updates to go. If you don't already have a "Feed Reader" setup, don't worry. When you choose the type of reader (for example Google), you will be redirected to a page where you can enter your account information OR setup a new account.

If you prefer to get your updates by email, just enter your email address in the space provided (above where you see the mail icon) and click subscribe.

You can also get just the comments updates. This works the same way as the RSS button.

What are you waiting for? Give it a try! Even if you don't want to use it, you'll at least know what it is when you see that symbol everywhere online.

Community Partnerships

From the Board Chair

RCS is able to fulfill its purpose and address its challenging mission because of the generous support of churches and individuals who want to share with others – especially those individuals and families among us in Craven, Jones and Pamlico counties who are struggling financially and spiritually.

In these incredibly trying economic times, many of us have had to drastically reduce household and personal expenses and rethink our budgets.  Many more of us are now out of work and facing monumental fiscal peril – and those numbers will likely increase significantly during 2010.  We see more and more people who need help with food, rent and utilities, and clothing.  The need for RCS – and for sharing with others – is far greater than in the past.

Our Board consists of volunteers who are dedicated to serving those among us who are in need of basic sustenance.  We are proud of the stewardship demonstrated by RCS with public and church gifts and the fact that we can stretch those dollar, food and clothing contributions to help adults and children in critical need.

We invite you to come by the offices, tour our Soup Kitchen, Food Pantry, Clothing Closet, Homeless Shelter and Warehouse, and learn more about this marvelous organization.

We invite you to comment and raise questions on how we can enhance and improve our services.  And yes, we proudly invite you to get involved, volunteer your time and talents and make a food donation or monetary gift to support our programs.  Make an investment in your fellow neighbors through RCS.

RCS is honored to receive financial, in-kind and volunteer support from over 50 area churches. Many of these churches have made RCS their local mission focus. It is a unique strength of this community that churches of all denominations come together to share their gifts and talents to minister to their neighbors in need of assistance.

For more information about how your church or organization can play a vital role in serving people with emergency needs in our community, please contact us.

The listing on the left only partially illustrates how  much support RCS receives from the community.

Individual Support
RCS appreciates the generosity of the many individuals who provide ongoing financial and in-kind support for our programs.

Corporate Support
RCS enjoys support from many businesses in our community. They supply food and product donations, professional services, and volunteers. We appreciate all that these businesses do to support RCS.

Foundation Support
We are grateful to the Harold H. Bate Foundation for funding our Rent and Utility Assistance Program and Prescription Medication Assistance Program, as well as other special needs.

Community Support
RCS is grateful to all those in our community who support the United Way of Coastal Carolina. Because of their gifts, United Way provides support for the Homeless Shelter and for our Transportation Assistance Program.

Several civic groups such as Rotary, Civitans and Lions Clubs support RCS with volunteers, special projects and financial gifts.
